| Speech Pathology
Department
Our
Speech Pathology Department specializes in identifying and treating
patients who have lost communication skills. Speech pathologists
assist patients with all aspects of communications. Your
speech-language pathologist's role may include evaluation of communication
and cognitive skills (speaking, hearing, understanding, reading, writing,
memory, orientation, problem solving, reasoning, and judgement).
They also treat patients who have eating, drinking, and swallowing
difficulties. Treatment may involve language therapy, voice therapy,
oral motor exercises, a special test to identify swallowing problems, and
alternative no-speech communication. Speech therapists provide
assistance to patients who experience frustration in their decreased
ability to express themselves and through therapy promote their
independence toward communication.
